The Far Northwest Area of San Antonio combines the best of suburban living with rural tranquility. It is also an area of rapid expansion, especially the Alamo Ranch community, and connects to San Antonio through a vast network of highways. Whatever you need rarely requires more than a short drive.


Residents never get bored in the Far Northwest. The Shops at Alamo Ranch and Culebra Market Shopping Center offer a wide selection of stores and restaurants. Each individual community showcases its own shops and boutiques for locally made goods.


For outdoor adventure lovers, Grey Forest, in particular, is tucked away in Hill Country, an ideal place for people who wish to immerse themselves in nature. Spend the day on the trails, then settle in for a picnic at OP Schnabel Park. Or, go fishing, boating, and camping at Medina Lake.


Neighborhood Vibe

Each neighborhood in the Far Northwest forms its own community with its own feel. Alamo Ranch and Northwest San Antonio look suburban and are undergoing rapid expansion. On the other hand, Helotes, which hosts an annual Cornyval Festival, and Grey Forest feel laid back and secluded and give off a more rural, small-town vibe.

Things to Know

The Far Northwest comes with the benefit of a slower pace of life, but it possesses only limited public transportation. Although well-connected to the major highways that get you to San Antonio, those highways get congested during high commute times. Still, residents of the Far Northwest find these neighborhoods to be charming, peaceful, and connected enough to make up for the added distance.
