I feel really safe and comfortable in this building - however, if I did not get a deal (2 months free rent and 1-year parking), I would probably not be living here. It sucks that the sauna can't be used, but I appreciate the building, keeping the gym open. I don't think I would be thrilled here if they closed the gym- it shows that the management here in the building can be very sensible. The recycling bin on my floor never gets too full; even during the holidays, they did a good job clearing it out. Management/staff is top-notch. Amenities are amazing if you own a pet, decent for working out, great free coffee before 10 am. The building is just a little outdated, but I think for the price it's not horrible.

What did you like most?

I love how pet friendly it is - transformed the putt-putt course into a dog park and there is usually a dog or two no matter the time of day. Great to socialize with others or convenient if you are too lazy to go for a walk. Jewel Osco is right next door, sometimes I won't even put on a jacket it's so close. The gym is decent (could use another squat rack) - not too busy but could be that people are nervous to use it during COVID. One thing I really appreciate is how helpful the staff can be - for instance, I forgot my keys a lot when I first moved in, and the staff never gave me too much grief for letting me borrow one of theirs. I only recently started giving them tips (I don't forget the keys that much anymore haha) but only because I realized it was the right thing, not because they asked. Love the floor to ceiling windows. I have to say that the maintenance staff is top-notch - I've only had one issue (heating went out), i put in the ticket maybe 1 hour later someone was knocking on my door. I think he had it fixed by 4 hours tops. It only took so long because he needed to replace something so he had to go get the part, was very respectable and kind. I honestly should change my rating for the staff in this building to 5 stars, they are true gems.

What did you like least?

Noise cancellation is pretty good - I live next to the trash chute so I can hear when people throw away trash (I put a sound/heat guard under my door, hoping it will block out some hallway noise) and for some reason can hear when people are showering upstairs or running a sink in the mornings. But it's just those small noises - can't hear voices, footsteps or TVs. For what I pay, the building is a bit outdated BUT I think I am paying for the location. I would probably appreciate it more if I was actually walking to work, but since the office is closed, I'm just in a really expensive studio in a fairly outdated building. The ceilings in my apt I never thought we too short but it is shorter compared to other buildings I've been to.

Management company is shady, takes forever to handle anything. Make sure you get something in writing if you want them to honor it. Move-in was easy (long walk to the freight elevator though, so bring a cart). Really, the internet is horrible.

What did you like most?

Great view, large unit, large bedrooms and closets! Awesome balcony. Tons of natural light in our unit, can't say the same for others.

What did you like least?

LOUD. You can hear everything in the next unit. I swear the walls are paper thin. Internet is trash. Tons of homeless people outside, but I guess that's because of the grocery store. Can't have it all.

So far, so good. Had issues with the speed of the internet, informed the leasing agent, Carly, and she put me in touch with the right people to get the internet fixed.

What did you like most?

The location; being right above the Grand Red Line stop is perfect for getting to work in the morning (Jackson Red Line stop), there are lot of dining options in the area, and everything is within walking distance (beach, Michigan Ave, movies, etc).

What did you like least?

The internet speed is horrible. We get it through AM3, so our utilities, cable, internet, etc. are all bundled into one price ($60 monthly), so I'm thinking we share the internet with others in our building. Netflix is alright, but buying a movie on iTunes and trying to watch it takes forever for the damn thing to buffer.

For me, being able to walk to work was the primary motivator for moving to Grand Plaza. The River North neighborhood is always alive and offers a variety of options for dining, night life, shopping, etc. Furthermore, it is located right above the red line Grand stop which makes getting around the city extremely easy.

What did you like most?

Grand Plaza has one of the best pool/grilling areas in the city during the summer. It is a very social atmosphere and everyone seems very approachable. There is also a Jewel below the building which makes grocery shopping incredibly convenient, which was not the case for me in prior living situations.

What did you like least?

The internet speed at Grand Plaza is not strong. Furthermore, our specific unit is carpeted which is not my first preference. I would rather all units be hard floor.

Very standard high rise rental complex. It meets expectations and provides a safe place to call home. There is only one provider of TV/internet and they are terrible in terms of quality and customer service. The management team did give us a reduction in the total rental price increase after a year, but the increase was 10% on our prior monthly rate. That felt excessive. The maintenance staff is always respondent and friendly. The doormen are fine. The amenities are really nice for the most part. The gym was recently rehabbed and is solid (missing some items you would find in an outside gym though. The hot tub has been constantly under renovation (over a year now) and unavailable. River North does not provide a sense of neighborhood at all and there are constantly homeless people or signature solicitors outside the building. The surrounding area is convenient for restaurants, shopping, and groceries though.

River North

If you want an energized urban experience, River North Chicago is the neighborhood for you. Its unique blend of commerce, housing, and tourism makes it one of the most sought after neighborhoods in Chicago. Most River North residences are glass or brick high rises, and a smaller portion of residents live in converted warehouse lofts.

If you’re a local, River North doesn’t offer as much communal or park space as other neighborhoods, but pet lovers still take advantage of the neighborhood’s pet-friendly buildings and river views. If walkable streets are a must, check out Gold Coast or Fulton River District.
