Lake Street Lofts: Historic Charm Meets Modern Living in Chicago

West Loop Location Offers Urban Convenience and Vibrant Culture

Located at 910 W Lake St in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, Lake Street Lofts combine the architectural character of a 19th-century restored building with thoughtfully designed modern apartments. The West Loop is one of Chicago’s most dynamic areas, known for its blend of historic warehouses and contemporary high-rises, with proximity to downtown, Little Italy, and the Illinois Medical District. Residents enjoy a walkable environment rich with award-winning restaurants, trendy bars, specialty grocery stores, art galleries, and cultural venues, making it a destination for lively urban living.

The community’s central location also provides excellent transit options, with the Lake/Morgan Green and Pink Line CTA “L” stops just steps away, and multiple bus routes nearby, facilitating easy access to all parts of the city including airports and major highways.

Historic Architecture with Contemporary Apartment Features

Lake Street Lofts are situated within the historic Davis & Rankin Building, originally built in 1886 and famously housing the Schwinn Bicycle Company. The lofts preserve the building’s historic roots through exposed brick walls, heavy timber ceilings, and original wood floors. These elements lend a distinct industrial-chic aesthetic popular with modern city dwellers seeking authentic character combined with modern comforts.

Inside the apartments, residents benefit from spacious layouts featuring hardwood floors, granite and natural stone countertops, stainless steel appliances including microwaves and dishwashers, walk-in closets, and gas fireplaces. High-speed internet access, air conditioning, ceiling fans, and controlled building access enhance comfort and convenience.

Exceptional Building Amenities and Outdoor Spaces

Beyond individual units, Lake Street Lofts offer a variety of amenities tailored to enrich residents’ lifestyle. A rooftop sundeck provides panoramic views of Chicago’s skyline, creating an inviting outdoor space to relax or entertain. Other building features include an elevator, a fitness center, a building laundry room, recycling services, and controlled access for security.

Private decks and grilling stations add to the appeal for residents who enjoy spending time outdoors in an urban setting. On-site parking options, including garages and assigned spaces, cater to commuter needs, while proximity to bike routes encourages alternative transportation.

Easy Access to Education and Recreation

The area surrounding Lake Street Lofts is served by Chicago Public Schools, including Skinner Elementary School, offering education options nearby for families. Union Park is also just a short walk away, providing green space for outdoor activities and community events.

Summary

Lake Street Lofts stand out as a premier residential destination in Chicago’s West Loop by seamlessly integrating the charm and history of a restored 19th-century loft building with upscale, contemporary amenities and a vibrant neighborhood lifestyle. Its central location, thoughtful design, and outstanding views make it a distinctive choice for those seeking the experience of urban loft living in one of Chicago’s most exciting neighborhoods.

Great neighborhood, beautiful apartments, access to public transportation, stores, restaurants etc. Building management is abrasive, unrealistic, and poor in regards to communication

amazing neighborhood (west loop) and great unit. very cool loft building in a neighborhood that doesn't have a lot of rental units. building management is very difficult to work with; makes life harder than it has to be for no reason. If the building wasn't so great, i wouldn't put up with the building manager. maintenance guys are helpful and very nice and responsive if there is a North issue (once you convince the bulding manager its legit).
What did you like most?
unit; loft unit on the corner with 9 huge windows.
What did you like least?
building manager. heat/cooling is hard to control without being crazy expensive because of thermostat placement. have figured out how to make it work after 3 years.

Location & Neighborhood

West Loop

It’s safe to say that the West Loop has probably changed more than any other Chicago neighborhood in the last ten years. Historic meat and fish warehouses have made way for Google’s Chicago campus, the McDonald’s global headquarters, Time Out Market, and an amazing array of Michelin-star restaurants and bars on Randolph Street. For any New Yorkers out there, West Loop has become the Soho of Chicago. Fittingly, it boasts our city’s only Soho House!

Because of West Loop’s growth in the last decade, real estate development has been heavily concentrated in the neighborhood. West Loop Chicago apartment buildings blend seamlessly with brick and timber lofts, all of which overlook the highway and the beautiful Chicago skyline. Amenities, both in residential buildings and in offices, emphasize accessibility and convenience. With over 560 acres of medical facilities located in West Loop, it has also become a popular spot for healthcare professionals who live in medical district housing.

West Loop has become one of the pricier neighborhoods in Chicago but still can be a great value for anyone moving to Chicago from New York, San Francisco, Boston, or Washington, D.C. There’s always something to do here, whether it’s bowling at Punch Bowl Social, grabbing the ‘best burger in Chicago’ at the original Au Cheval, or toasting an incredible cocktail at The Aviary.
