We have loved both the apartment and the neighborhood. Our unit is owned by an individual landlord who has been great to work with - no dealing with big, slow property management companies. The neighborhood is great for us - three guys all under 25. We're very close to DePaul, so lots of bars and quick restaurants nearby. There are some higher end/nicer restaurants somewhat close, but I wouldn't describe it as a place that 'foodies' would love.
What did you like most?
Very walkable neighborhood - I don't have a car, and never felt like I needed one. Grocery stores, bars, restaurants are all nearby. Also very well serviced by the el and buses.
What did you like least?
Now that we're 25, we're looking for something a bit less collegiate and fratty. Some of the bars nearby are packed with 18 - 21 year olds and pumped full of Top 40 music - not quite my scene any more, unfortunately. Signs of getting old.

Walk-up home in an awesome part of Lincoln Park. Loved the neighborhood feel and the ease of getting to a lot of places in Chicago.
What did you like most?
Nearby Oz park is a great way to spend time outdoors.
What did you like least?
Lived right on the train tracks. Was very disruptive.

Lincoln Park

Just north of Old Town, Lincoln Park is one of the largest and most popular Chicago neighborhoods– and for good reason. Most residents are a short distance away from some of the best nightlife, dining, lakefront parks, shopping, and tree-lined streets in the entire city. It combines all the best aspects of a close-knit community with the appeal of the big city. This means rental prices can be high.

Residents live mostly in walk-ups, but there are quite a few high-rises, especially near the lake. Lincoln Parkers are spoiled with their close proximity to the lake and ample running and biking trails. Lincoln Park has the second largest shopping concentration in the city: ranging from high-end boutiques to secondhand resale shops.

Lincoln Park also offers public tennis and basketball courts, baseball and softball diamonds, and soccer fields that are used recreationally and by intramural leagues. Weekends can be spent strolling through the Lincoln Park Zoo, hitting a bucket of golf balls at the Diversey Bay Harbor, or heading to Lakeview or The Loop easily via the Brown Line.
