This building isn't perfect, but it's pretty nice. We were originally 110 units, built in 1965 - a couple have been combined, so we are a little bit shy of that. A handful of units are rented by owners, and two are rented by the building itself. The building is run by an outside management company that largely acts at the direction of the association board - the board is largely excellent, though like anywhere else, real good boards leave no significant problems which leaves residents without much desire to be on the board - and then you get weirdos that jack stuff up for a year or so. Because we are owners, we tend to be prudent about maintenance, but not usually the Rolls-Royce approach. Nothing fails around here - but the roof deck is re-stained every year, and it's not particularly gorgeous because it still has life. Lobby is immaculate, hallways were just re-done 2 years ago or so. Neighborhood is a little older, not many children, quiet and tree-lined. Everything is walking distance.
What did you like most?
Quiet. So very quiet. You don't hear through the walls. Very safe building, as safe a neighborhood as you get in city. Nice people, reasonably social, but stay out of people's business. Walking to triangle. I can leave my unit, walk to CVS and buy something, and be back home - all in under 8 minutes. Beach is 2 blocks, park is 3 blocks, bank is 2 blocks, Gibsons is 4 blocks, Jimmie Johns or Verizon store is 3 blocks. Pool, 24 hour maintenance and doorman, valet parking garage, full-time on-site management, 3 elevators, huge roof deck with gas grill and pool. 1650 Square Feet in my unit.
What did you like least?
Jewel closed. I am left with Plum, Treasure Island, and Potash - great compared to, say, Lakeview - but sucks to lose Jewel. Building is a little old. They don't really get into blaring 50 Cent at midnight on a Tuesday . . . . I have had noise complaints in mid-afternoon on a Friday - but only from one resident. Mostly everyone is a good neighbor - just a couple that want not to notice they have neighbors separated by 4 layers of sheet rock and a metal stud. I use the common laundry room in basement.
