I live in a condo that I own, so the unit has all of the features that are important to me (laundry, dishwasher, parking space, lots of light, spacious, etc.). I generally love my neighborhood - close to public transpo, many different shopping/eating districts within walking distance, running distance to the lake. My only complaint is that it can seem a little too college, primarily as there is a rental building next to that is affordable for renters in their young twenties and activity from Wrigley. Otherwise it is fairly laid back, which is a plus, but with enough activity/people out walking around for it to feel social. Prefer the neighborhood feel of Lakeview to areas closer to downtown (River North, West Loop), although if I go out on the weekends it is typically not in Lakeview, usually head further west or south (Logan Square, West Loop). If I were buying a condo now, I would likely expand my search to neighborhoods farther north/west that have less of a college vibe.
