My spouse and I lived in the building 3 years (2015-2018). We were attracted by the lake views, proximity to the red line, and cheaper rent relative to other buildings in the area. Our first landlord (Jean Star) was terrible. She entered our apartment without our permission and tried to keep our security deposit for defects that were present on move in and agreed to in writing. We had to hire a lawyer to get it back. Our current landlord is fine but doesn't live in the building. Many who live here are elitist and unpleasant, looking down on staff and renters. Fees are outrageous as mentioned in my other comments. Past building managers have been impossible to work with and insulting, but the current one is great. Other building staff are generally wonderful and friendly. The structure itself is old so the water is shut off regularly and we have had many leaks and other issues between the 2 units we've rented. Generally, owners will be exposed to an old structure with high and ever rising fees, while tenets are treated like second-class citizens/burdens. Personally, I'd look elsewhere if you're considering buying or renting property in Chicago's Gold Coast.
What did you like most?
Great lake views, cheaper rent relative to other building in the area, very nice doormen

Many owners/residents are elitist and generally unpleasant to be around (i.e. will look down on staff and renters). Fees are outrageous (e.g. $700 to use the service elevator for 2 hrs; $1400 to move between floors). Building managers change often and have been condescending and manipulative (*current one is great though). Building staff are not allowed to attend to the annual holiday party. Staff and renters are not allowed to attend condo association meetings, even to make a request (all must be done in writing). Older building with constant maintenance, water shut offs, etc.

My overall experience has been my best in Chicago yet. The building staff is extremely courteous and even though the condo management is very strict with their rules making them hard to work with, I understand and appreciate them wanting to be fair to every resident. I feel safe and have a sense of communal belonging which makes living here a joy!
What did you like most?
- Neighborhood - View of the lake - People/Neighbors/Building staff - Easy access to bus/train - Plenty to do around the neighborhood at all times of the day
What did you like least?
Living so close to the lake can make winters/windy days harsh

My experience has been amazing at 1150 North Lake Shore Dr! I have everything I need in my little studio space and public transit is right outside my door, so it is easy to get to wherever I want to go. The red line is just 2 blocks away and the bus is right out front of my building. Chicago summers are unreal and so is the view from my sun deck up on the top floor, not to mention you walk outside and have easy access to both North Ave and Oak St. beaches. They also recently just put in a workout room in the last year so that makes for easy access to fitness when the winter comes around. The staff and doormen are all very friendly and very accommodating to any requests that the community has.
What did you like most?
My roof deck!
What did you like least?
Would love to have a pool - but the beach is right across the street, so I can't complain!
