I was looking for apartments in South Loop, basically all on-line and through a realtor, who was a life saver. She visited every apartment I liked and sent me a video, it was the only way someone from across the world could actually see what each apartment was like. No one posts small details in listings, such as if the apartment is close to a train station and you hear that all day, if its in a corner where people commute a lot and therefore there is a higher chance of getting robbed, etc. I chose this apartment basically because of its offerings for its price ($2.2K), including apartment, quite big, and two rooms. I also have a daughter so having a good Day Care nearby was a must, but cross-searching day cares with apartments was a pain.. It took HOURS, and it was not efficient at all. If it wasn't for the realtor, I would have never found this.

What did you like most?

It is quite close to both supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants, even a clinic, bus and train stops, so in that sense, it is perfect. Space vs. price is awesome, it has a great distribution of space. One of the best prices for a 2bed in the area.

What did you like least?

The neighborhood is good but for my taste it is a bit sketchy, probably because it is too close to the Roosevelt train station and there are a lot of homeless people around. After a certain hour, it does not feel safe. It does not have the best amenities, it is an old building, but it works for what we want.

The South Loop has been the center of new residential construction in Chicago for the last decade as people have realized just how convenient it is. South Loop boasts a large amount of green space, Soldier Field, and an easy commute to The Loop. While many South Loop buildings are brand new high rises, the rent is comparably more affordable than other neighborhoods.

Taking a lakeshore stroll or running along the lake is easy for South Loopers, with its convenient location. Residents of South Loop can be found dining outside at a cafe or taking advantage of their building’s ample amenities on weeknights. The weekends in South Loop are spent walking to Shedd Aquarium or Adler planetarium for whimsical exploration. Or, using the money saved on rent to attend Lollapalooza or go shopping downtown.

Because South Loop is mostly residential, the nightlife options here are slim to none. Most people head downtown for their entertainment, which makes this neighborhood a quiet place to settle down.
