The Chicagoan (1990) is a full-amenity rental apartment building on the border of River North and Gold Coast.
What Occupants Love
Solid nearby quick-service dining options. Social/friendly residents. Great pool/deck scene. Coffee available in the lobby every morning.
What Occupants Love Less
Limited gym offerings. Moderate elevator waits during peak times. Some residents believe the new building management could be a bit more accommodating and that the surrounding area can feel touristy.
Nearby The Chicagoan
Mediocre. A few times major issues occurred (leaks, flooding) and I was not thrilled by the response of the management company. Overall, the doorman are wonderful (they recently changed when ownership changed) but never had an issue there. The pool area was renovated in the last year or so. The package room needs a better system of receiving and informing residents of package arrivals -- I've lost one too many packages.
What did you like most?
I enjoyed the pool area, being in a convenient location and having doorman and maintenance men who were helpful and responsive.
What did you like least?
When the building was recently bought by PPM (sold by Draper & Kramer), everything went down the drain and I moved out as soon as possible. Given all the other options in the neighborhood, I would not recommend this building.
