The Chicagoan (1990) is a full-amenity rental apartment building on the border of River North and Gold Coast.
What Occupants Love
Solid nearby quick-service dining options. Social/friendly residents. Great pool/deck scene. Coffee available in the lobby every morning.
What Occupants Love Less
Limited gym offerings. Moderate elevator waits during peak times. Some residents believe the new building management could be a bit more accommodating and that the surrounding area can feel touristy.

The Chicagoan is a nice building - not the top of the line but pretty close. The amenities are nice, recently renovated pool deck is nice with grills and fire pits (though the fire pits often don't work), moderately sized gym, and coffee in the lobby in the mornings. The tenants are mostly young professionals and no one is too rowdy. The units have stainless steel appliances and granite counters, and while sort of small they are well laid out. The in-unit washer dryer is a great perk and one of the main reasons I moved to this building - it's hard to come by in rentals. The location can't be beat as you can walk to your job in the Loop or to the many bars/restaurants in River North or Gold Coast, though it can get touristy with Michigan Ave and the Giordano's right next to the building.
Just got new management so we'll see how that goes. Unit is great and pool deck is good. Common areas and gym leave something to be desired.
Great building, a little outdated, but I love the Gold Coast

New kitchen, in unit washer/dryer, pool and other amenities
What did you like least?
Building is a little old, temp control is outdated
