Building

Overview

Oakwood Chicago River North (formerly Jones Chicago) is a new construction (2015), full-amenity rental building in River North. Very well-finished boutique building. Great amount of space in these units that also feel open due to floor-to-ceiling windows.

Address

220 W Illinois St, Chicago IL

What Occupants Love

Social/friendly residents. Great dining and nightlife options. Excellent in-unit temperature control. Solid shower pressure. Building staff that go above and beyond. Responsive and accommodating building management.

What Occupants Love Less

One resident believes the gym and pool areas are a bit small.  Only 2 elevators can cause bottlenecks on big move-in/move-out days.

Very high quality building and can't best the location. Amenities are also very well done.

What did you like most?

Outside of location, amenities. Small but quality and people actually use them and socialize with each other.

New building. Great people and amenities. Awesome location.

Building is nice and brand new. Neighborhood is great. Price is high for minimal square footage. Pool is on the east side of the building so you lose sun around 12:30 PM. Elevators were terrible. Terrible.

What did you like most?

Top floor lounge offers incredible views. Friends often commented on the views. Doormen were friendly. Nest thermostat in units were sweet.

What did you like least?

Elevators, elevators, elevators. There is no freight/moving elevator. Only two elevators period. So if someone is moving in or out, only one elevator works for the entire building. Plan on getting very comfortable with the lobby because you will be waiting there frequently. Pool is very poorly planned. Six chairs total and sun is gone by 12:30 because the pool is on the east side of the building.

Positive - management and staff are very helpful, and the apartment was in great shape (brand new) when we moved in. No issues with receiving furniture deliveries/packages or anything else related to the move itself. Apartment is great overall.

What did you like most?

New building, floor plan, views/windows/balcony.

What did you like least?

Gym and pool deck are a bit small (but still well maintained and set up).
