Gateway makes life easy. Everything you need from leading grocery stores to restaurants to dry cleaning are all within one city block. The gym is never crowded the pool has IMO the best view of the city and everything is well maintained. The building is filled with people who like to have fun responsibly but are still friendly. The staff is always helpful and accessible. When I think of an affordable luxury mid rise in the heart of the West Loop, I think of Gateway. What do you like most: I like that the building is not over-crowded. There are only around 120 units which makes living here private but they also have community style events in the common areas that allow neighbors the chance to meet/interact. They have an online "facebook" style portal that allows residents to interact and sell furniture or services. The building sends out any and all event and lobby information as well on this portal. Packages are secure and you are immediately notified when something is ready to be picked up from downstairs. There is dry cleaning (press box) in the building as well. The east-south-west facing pool is an obvious plus with breathtaking city views of the loop and great gas grills and a fire pit. The West Loop itself is IMO the BEST place to live in the city if you enjoy city living in a community style with extremely delicious food options. It is only a 20 minute walk to Millennium Park and a 5$ cab ride to the rambunctious River North from Gateway and public transit is extremely accessible. What do you like least: They recently added additional security to the building causing you to have to buzz in before you can get to the front desk. We have a 24-hour doorman so it seemed a bit unnecessary and a hassle to have to have keys on you to even get inside of the front doors of the building into the lobby. This is an extremely safe area and in the heart of an amazing community style neighborhood so this seemed overkill.

West Loop

It’s safe to say that the West Loop has probably changed more than any other Chicago neighborhood in the last ten years. Historic meat and fish warehouses have made way for Google’s Chicago campus, the McDonald’s global headquarters, Time Out Market, and an amazing array of Michelin-star restaurants and bars on Randolph Street. For any New Yorkers out there, West Loop has become the Soho of Chicago. Fittingly, it boasts our city’s only Soho House!

Because of West Loop’s growth in the last decade, real estate development has been heavily concentrated in the neighborhood. West Loop Chicago apartment buildings blend seamlessly with brick and timber lofts, all of which overlook the highway and the beautiful Chicago skyline. Amenities, both in residential buildings and in offices, emphasize accessibility and convenience. With over 560 acres of medical facilities located in West Loop, it has also become a popular spot for healthcare professionals who live in medical district housing.

West Loop has become one of the pricier neighborhoods in Chicago but still can be a great value for anyone moving to Chicago from New York, San Francisco, Boston, or Washington, D.C. There’s always something to do here, whether it’s bowling at Punch Bowl Social, grabbing the ‘best burger in Chicago’ at the original Au Cheval, or toasting an incredible cocktail at The Aviary.
