I love this building and this community. I love the neighborhood so much. I will say that the gym is small and is limited to 5 people at a time, so you haven to navigate that when you want to work out. I love being close to public transport, but I would just warn people to be careful/aware of your surroundings before you set out to use any of the CTA stops around the area. The W/D are great, typical apartment size but are very quick and efficient.
What did you like most?
I love my unit and that it comes with an in unit W/D AND balcony with perfect city/neighborhood views. I also love that the building is so friendly! From the front desk to the maintenance staff to my neighbors, I haven't met anyone that hasn't been friendly or kind to me. I also love that we have a gym, business center, and several other amenities that make my life significantly easier and more enjoyable. Lastly, I enjoy the size of the building. I moved from a huge apartment building (thousands of people) and I hated how long it took to navigate everything. Astoria is the perfect size.
What did you like least?
When there's a concert/fest at Grant Park my block and the surrounding blocks are packed. When that happens, Uber/public transport are a nightmare. I'll also say that there's usually some sort of violence down by the Roosevelt CTA so I make sure to go during the day or with people!

Good. Rent is increasing. Supposed to be consistent with the neighborhood, but feels pricey compared to previous locations in Chicago. Amenities also include onsite dry cleaning pick-up and drop off device (with lockers).
What did you like most?
Proximity to lake and red/ orange lines , dry cleaning service, and indoor parking.
What did you like least?
College students in the building.

Positive - rent feels high for the amenities, but will likely become more competitive as new buildings come onto the market nearby.

Location

South Loop

The South Loop has been the center of new residential construction in Chicago for the last decade as people have realized just how convenient it is. South Loop boasts a large amount of green space, Soldier Field, and an easy commute to The Loop. While many South Loop buildings are brand new high rises, the rent is comparably more affordable than other neighborhoods.

Taking a lakeshore stroll or running along the lake is easy for South Loopers, with its convenient location. Residents of South Loop can be found dining outside at a cafe or taking advantage of their building’s ample amenities on weeknights. The weekends in South Loop are spent walking to Shedd Aquarium or Adler planetarium for whimsical exploration. Or, using the money saved on rent to attend Lollapalooza or go shopping downtown.

Because South Loop is mostly residential, the nightlife options here are slim to none. Most people head downtown for their entertainment, which makes this neighborhood a quiet place to settle down.
