It's a pretty decent building in a great neighborhood. They are minor problems with the building - thin walls, out of unit washer/dryer, no gym or doorman, etc. - but overall my unit is nicely sized, the building is well maintained, and it is in a great location.

Lack of amenities (gym, pool, doorman), age of building (thinner walls and no central heat or air).

the day were scheduled to move in, the previous tenants hadnt moved out yet. we waited in the alley with our moving truck while they finished moving out & a cleaning service attempted to do a quick once over. when we moved in, it was dirty, the walls hadnt been painted, etc. we had to coordinate with painters to have them paint the apartment after we moved in & since it was a month or 2 later they had to paint around stuff already hung on walls, etc The first year we lived there we had extensive problems with cable/internet access (as in atleast a 6-8 month stretch without ANY cable and internet), despite the fact it was supposed to be included & had multiple service technicians come out (which we had to take time off of work for). We were never offered any rent deductions. When we asked for a modest reduction we were met with push back. ultimately, we got a very modest amount taken off (probably not even the cost of the actual service) for 1 month, despite the fact that the problems plagued basically our entire 1st year. the 2nd year we had extensive problems getting sufficient heat and the heat going out in the winter (ie, the arctic tundra winter-- with record low temps). even with space heaters we were very, very cold. they didnt take the problem seriously, and tried to blame our furniture placement-- saying that the furniture was blocking flow of heat-- despite the fact that our furniture placement hadnt changed from the prior winter when we had no problems & the fact that you could touch the pipes and feel that they were cold. again, we were never offered any rent deductions and when we asked for a modest reduction we were met with push back. then, after moving out he (landlord renting condo) tried to nickel and dime us on the security deposit-- making deductions for irregularities in the painting, for example, which only occurred because he had painters come in months after we moved in and paint around our belongings in hindsight, it was a horrible experience and we were taken advantage of; my roommate and i were both female and recent college grads and we should have been more assertive and demanded these problems be addressed. it was a learning experience for us both

The location was great! Super close to the bus stop, walkable to restaurants, the lake, bars, shopping. The building itself was not fancy but provided the basics of what one needs to live. We rented from an individual landlord who was pretty terrible to communicate with. For close to a year we struggled to get consistent cable and internet and our heat was broken during the polar vortex. If it weren't for my awesome roommate, I wouldn't have made it, and I now live in Los Angeles due to that winter :)

Lincoln Park

Just north of Old Town, Lincoln Park is one of the largest and most popular Chicago neighborhoods– and for good reason. Most residents are a short distance away from some of the best nightlife, dining, lakefront parks, shopping, and tree-lined streets in the entire city. It combines all the best aspects of a close-knit community with the appeal of the big city. This means rental prices can be high.

Residents live mostly in walk-ups, but there are quite a few high-rises, especially near the lake. Lincoln Parkers are spoiled with their close proximity to the lake and ample running and biking trails. Lincoln Park has the second largest shopping concentration in the city: ranging from high-end boutiques to secondhand resale shops.

Lincoln Park also offers public tennis and basketball courts, baseball and softball diamonds, and soccer fields that are used recreationally and by intramural leagues. Weekends can be spent strolling through the Lincoln Park Zoo, hitting a bucket of golf balls at the Diversey Bay Harbor, or heading to Lakeview or The Loop easily via the Brown Line.
