One of Denver’s oldest neighborhoods, Five Points, boasts a diverse history dating back to the pre-Capitol Hill era. Previously known for a short time as the “Harlem of the West,” Five Points has hosted many famous jazz musicians throughout the years. Today, this neighborhood sprawls east of downtown and provides suburban relief from skyscrapers and high-rises.

Efforts to renew and revitalize the area are well underway, but this neighborhood is going through a less rapid renovation than its artsy sister-hood, RiNo. Nonetheless, acclaimed concert halls, cozy watering holes, and decadent eateries make Five Points a cultural hub of Denver.

Unlike the neighboring Central Business District, this area has always been predominantly residential. Victorian homes of the 1900s still stand, many of which have been renovated or converted into duplexes. Although this area contains mostly single-family homes, a few residential complexes have sprung up in recent years along Welton Street. Five Points boasts reasonable rent prices, plentiful transportation, and tons of places to become a regular.

Neighborhood Vibe

A residential step back from Denver’s growing concrete jungle, this historic neighborhood has mostly single-family homes or renovated duplexes. A few residential buildings on Welton are the exception. Watering holes, concert halls, and world-renowned street art make this neighborhood a cultural center of Denver.

Favorite Spots

If you’re looking for a cozy place to grab a drink, check out Ophelia’s Electric Soapbox, Spangalang Brewery, 715 Club, or The British Bulldog. For some great food, swing by Mercury Cafe, La Fiesta, Rosenberg’s Bagel & Delicatessen. See a show at Cervantes' Masterpiece Ballroom, brush up on your history at the Black American West Museum, and grab some fresh produce from the Mo' Betta Greens Marketplace on Saturdays.

Things to Know

There are plenty of parking options in Five Points, mostly street parking and some driveways or garages. Houses are mostly single-family homes or duplexes. This area is still being developed, so there is a mix of old and new buildings. Because this area is so close to downtown, there is plenty of public transportation available.
